New Tax Year 2025/2026
The New Tax Year starts on the 6th of April 2025. At Barrons, we will advise you of when key dates are coming up but have pulled together this handy list, so that you have advance notice of what needs to happen and when. We’ve put together a list of the dates which you can also download at the end of this article.
As well as providing an overview of the key dates, we’ve also taken a look at some of the changes that are coming into effect in the New Tax Year. These were announced in the last budget and may well affect your business:
April 2025 – Key Dates
6th of April 2025 – This is the start of the new tax year. Changes that will happen on this date are as follows:
- Employer National Insurance Contributions are going up by 1.2% to 15%. The threshold for paying these is being reduced to £5000.
- For 18-20 year olds, the National Minimum Wage is going up to £10 per hour. Those aged 21 and over will see a rise in the living wage to £12.21.
- The state pension rises by 4.1%
19th of April 2025 – For employers this is the deadline to submit a Full Payment Summary and Employer Payment Summary.
30th April 2025 – The penalties for self-assessment come into effect.
May 2025 – Key Dates
31st May 2025 – This is the deadline for P60’s for those employees who were on your payroll on the 5th April 2024.
July 2025 – Key Dates
5th July 2025 – By this date all employees should have received their P60 and/or P11D (if you are not running this through payroll).
6th July 2025 – Employer deadline to report class 1A National Insurance Contributions.
31st July 2025 – Self-assessment 2nd payment on account is due.
October 2025 – Key Dates
5th October 2025 – If you need to file a self-assessment for the first time, this is the deadline to let HMRC know that you will be filing.
22nd October 2025 – The deadline for paying Class 1B National Insurance Contributions
31st October 2025 – This is the last date you can file a paper self-assessment.
January 2026 – Key Dates
31st January 2026 – The deadline for online self-assessment returns and the date your first payment on account is due.
